Advancing the Common Good: Creating Opportunities for a Better Life for All

Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. That’s why United Way’s work - and your generous gift - is focused on the building blocks for a good life:

 Education

 Income

 Health

Providing programs that help children and youth at: Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Focus on Youth, Family YMCAs, Fieldale Community Center, Piedmont Community Services,
For the Children.

Providing initiatives that address root causes through Success By 6, a United Way early childhood initiative, that provides parenting classes, workshops and coaching for local daycare providers, promotes literacy and child-parent bonding, and creates partnerships to develop strong kids and families.

You help all the local nonprofits be more effective through United Way’s Nonprofit Leaders Network which provides technical and consulting services to help nonprofits be more effective.

Serving people in financial crisis through United Way’s HOPE (Helping Others Progress Economically) Initiative which helps families and individuals improve their financial stability by offering free income tax preparation, workplace financial literacy classes and promoting financial literacy skills throughout the community.

Helping the Mentally/ Physically Challenged remain independent by providing programs at: MARC Workshop and Stepping Stones

You help break the cycle of poverty through programs developed by United Way’s Vision Councils that helps working, single moms living in poverty learn how to manage their finances with the help of a trained financial advisor.

Your gift helps people in crisis through programs at: American Red Cross, Citizens Against Family Violence, CONTACT, Grace Network, Mental Health Association, Salvation Army, The Mission Center.

You make sure everyone has emergency assistance through: Axton Life Saving Crew, Bassett Rescue Squad, Fieldale-Collinsville Vol. Rescue Squad, Horsepasture Vol. Rescue Squad, Ridgeway District Rescue Squad

Our community and local statistics tell us that access to healthcare is a priority so United Way is developing strategies to address the issue. Currently United Way partners with FamilyWize to provide Prescription Cards to reduce medication costs to individuals and families with no coverage.
