- Register NOW! Financial coaching classes begin March 21st 2013

The United Way of Henry County and Martinsville is now registering participants for the Money Management Mentoring Program. The program will begin on Thursday, March 21st, from 5:30 pm – 8:00pm, and will continue to meet weekly for 6 weeks. This program is FREE to adults (Men and Women) ages 18 and older, living or working in Martinsville or Henry County. Dinner will be served and childcare is provided.

Participants will need to commit to the entire program, which includes six sessions. These sessions are taught by trained financial coaches to ensure the information is current and helpful. There will be activities and assignments during and between classes to enhance the learning experience. Participants will never be asked to share personal financial information such as bank account numbers or credit card numbers with any classmates or financial coaches.

The deadline to register for the Money Management Mentoring Program is Monday, March 18th, 2013. Classes are only held twice per year and please note that class size is limited, so register today!

Previous participants have reported a 100% increase in their savings and a decrease in their debt. One woman said, “Taking Charge of your life can be fun and exciting!” This past fall, one participant saved over $800.00 during the 6 week course as part of a Piggy Bank Challenge.

Other participants have reported (since last spring) eliminating over $480,000 in medical expenses, paying off a student loan, and saving over $50 per week. Many of our participants have reported feeling more in control of their lives and more confident in their ability to make decisions regarding their financial future.

NEW THIS YEAR! Upon completing ALL 6 Session of the program, participants will EARN money as they SAVE money through a “Matched Savings Program.” In addition, participants will receive a ready-to-make meal to take home to their families, information on nutrition, grocery shopping, and meal planning; support for fitness goals, and information on raising resilient children. All participants are awarded with a certificate of completion, and an opportunity to mentor others in the community.

This program is funded through partnerships including the HOPE Coalition (Helping Others Progress Economically), Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness, the Cooperative Extension Agency, the Harvest Foundation and Smart Beginnings Early Childhood Initiative. The efforts of this program are sustained through the support of the United Way of Henry County and Martinsville in order to improve economic self-sufficiency. This collaborative empowers the community and individuals to plan for a successful financial future.
