Financial Stability & Income
The HOPE Initiative (Helping Others Progress Economically) is a coalition of community partners working together to develop programs that improve economic self-sufficiency among low income working families. The HOPE Initiative takes an entirely new approach to the issue of poverty. Instead of simply fixing immediate emergency problems, the initiative empowers individuals to take control of their own financial situation proving long-term success.
How HOPE Creates Change
Financial Coaching for Women: Key to the HOPE Initiative is developing innovative programs. The Initiative is undertaking a new program which will train volunteers on coaching and money management and pair them with women who want to improve their lives by improving their financial decisions. By combining behavorial change, coaching and financial fundementals, the participants will have a safe place to talk about financial issues while learning positive financial practices. VITA (Volunteer Tax Assistance) Sites: With assistance from the IRS, the HOPE initiative trains volunteers to provide free tax preparation for low-income individuals and families. In addition, families are assisted in acquiring Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit and the Education Tax Credit; putting more money back into the hands of those who need it most.
Dollars & Sense - Financial Reality Fair for High School Seniors: The Dollars & Sense Reality Fair teaches all high school students in our area how to better manage their money by showing them the real cost of real life. Last year, over 600 students participated in the event and 60 volunteers.
Workplace Financial Literacy Campaign: Free financial education classes are provided for employees at local companies through the HOPE Initiative. Employees who complete the program receive a certificate of accomplishment as well as individual attention to their financial challenges.
Promoting and Improving Financial Literacy: The HOPE Initiative knows that financial independence is based on improved education. With over 30 pay day lenders in the immediate area, financial savy must be a priority to end the cycle of poor financial decisions.
