To help build a strong foundation of nonprofit services in the local community, the United Way of Henry County & Martinsville offers the Nonprofit Leaders Network. The initiative is designed to ensure the local nonprofit sector has access to ongoing availability of training, material and web-based resources and technical assistance in the areas of organizational development, growth and sustainability, communication, collaboration and sharing of resources.

2009 Successes of the Nonprofit Leaders Network
- The Nonprofit Leaders Network membership, as a group, is now the largest employer in Maritnsville and Henry County.
An anecdotal tally of new funding shows Network members raised an average of 25% more than the year before. As a group, Network members have doubled the amount of funding they have raised as compared to five years ago. 36 capacity trainings, 38 Organizational Consultations and 60 individual consultations were completed in 2009. The Volunteer Connection was visited on average over 100 times a day and 75% of listing organizations are matched with volunteers within 3 weeks of posting. Combined, the libraries were visited 985 times. In partnership with Patrick Henry Community College, the Network offered 6 nonprofit management classes for Certification and 4 workshops were offered in 2008, with 80 attendees. 27 new partnerships were formed by members in 2009. 100% of grant proposals reviewed through the Grant Proposal Review and Grantwriting Assistance programs were funded. Overall, volunteerism has increased 300% to member organizations since 2004.
