The Community Assessment is a community priority setting project sponsored by the United Way of Henry County and Martinsville (UWHCM). The survey, which was implemented using a group of volunteer community facilitators, has two purposes:

  • First, it collects information from members of the community regarding perceived quality of life, life satisfaction, community involvement, community strengths and weakness, and community organizations.
  • Second, it seeks to generate dialogue about important issues in the community and identify individuals willing to be involved in later stages of the process.

United Way's Vision Councils (groups of volunteers, concerned citizens, nonprofit staff, government employees and corporate participants) will use the information from the survey in conjunction with other information sources to evaluate existing United Way priorities and identify new opportunities for community impact. The Community Assessment was designed to help set priorities for charitable investments by the United Way and give guidance to others in our community related to their philanthropic efforts.
