The annual Hooker Furniture Warehouse Sale is coming up and we need your help!

Volunteer Registration for the 2025 Sale is Open on EngageHCM.org.

Volunteer Information:

  • WAREHOUSE LOCATION: 8761 A L Philpott Hwy., Martinsville, VA 24112

  • Volunteers are Scheduled from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (1st Shift) and 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (2nd shift), or 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (All Day Shift).

Please Arrive at Least 30 minutes early for your shift!

The Sale is Open to the Public from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Your Action Steps Upon Arrival:

  1. Please arrive and park before the 8:00 a.m. or 12 p.m. shift start time. Hooker Furniture has recommended parking at their corporate office: 440 E. Commonwealth Blvd., near the Mustang's baseball field. A shuttle will be provided.

  2. Check in with Rebecca Conter to sign volunteer waiver.

Each shift will have approximately 10 volunteers from United Way of Henry County and Martinsville, Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge. The volunteer support we receive for this event ensures a successful, safe, and fun event!

Reminders:

  • Volunteer roles involve wrapping large furniture and the likelihood of using hand trucks/dollies to bring furniture to loading bays.
  • There are many accommodations to enable anyone to participate. If there are accommodations needed, please let us know ahead of time.
  • Volunteers will receive a voucher toward a furniture purchase for working a complete shift. You must be able to take the furniture with you when you leave by 5:00 p.m. There are no exceptions or special requests taken. We appreciate your understanding.
  • Please wear your co-branded Volunteer Shirt (pick up from United Way of HCM office by Friday, May 30, at 5 p.m., as we will have limited shirts on-site on Saturday), closed-toed comfortable shoes, shorts, and other cool clothes. There will be fans at each station and the bay doors will remain open, however, it can be hot!
  • Water and refreshments will be provided all day for volunteers.

Volunteer Roles:  

  • Customers will begin arriving before 8:00 a.m. and will line up at the entrance. The parking lot will fill up quickly! We advise parking at the Hooker Furniture Corporate Office, 440 E. Commonwealth Blvd. A shuttle will be provided. Please arrive at 7:30 for your 8 a.m. shift. 
  • Customers may purchase many items, resulting in their entire order being sent to one designated bay door to be loaded into their vehicle. Typically, there are 6 bays in working use.
  • Hooker Furnishings Employees and some Volunteers will be retrieving items from the floor and bringing them to the bay door for volunteers to foam wrap/tape to protect furniture during loading and transport.
  • Only Hooker Furnishings Employees will load furniture into the vehicles. We cannot tie down or secure furniture once it is placed in the customer’s vehicle. Customers will need to have all furniture picked up by 5:00 p.m. No furniture will be held after 5 p.m.
  • This is a GREAT opportunity for Board and Staff to work together to engage the community around the work we do. You will see many familiar faces. Please tell them about your UWHCM experience!
  • Take rests as needed. If you feel sick at any time, please let one of our staff know.

Lunch will be provided around 12:00 p.m.

A portion of the sale's proceeds will be going to United Way of Henry County and Martinsville's 2025-2026 Campaign in addition to the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, and Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge.
